Okay. Here's my tip from me to you!
First of all, try taking the same shot in a bunch of different angles. Faces look nice in side angles.
Fiddle with lighting. If it's too dark, you need flash, and flash puts an unwanted glare. If it's too bright, then there will also be glare. Try to find a happy medium.
Lastly, make sure you love the outcome! If you don't, there was no point in taking the photo, or even reading my advice!
